2024 Election Statement

November 6, 2024
By Shane Murphy Goldsmith

I have a lot of feelings today. Fear is one. Anger. Betrayal. Heartbreak.

We now face the very grim reality of a presidential administration that is ideologically and morally opposed to everything we stand for. It threatens to be more vicious, more anti-democratic, and more steeped in hatred even than the first one.

This is a crisis for our nation. That’s why we have a duty to come together like never before. To defend our values. To defend each other.

We know who will feel the damage and pain of this new administration’s racial hatred and politics of cruelty, fear and resentment first and most acutely: people living in poverty, communities of color, immigrants, LGBTQIA+ people, and the most vulnerable members of our society.

Our partners are on the frontlines of democracy every day, giving their communities a voice, and demanding the resources needed to fight over-policing and incarceration, housing insecurity, toxic air pollution, and more. And they will be on the frontlines again to face threats like mass deportation, attacks on trans rights, and contempt for justice before the law.

Now more than ever, those of us who believe in racial and economic justice must come together to defend our democracy and our vision of a society that cares for everyone. We have achieved so much progress.

We will not go back.

We will defeat this hateful ideology, because love is stronger than hate, and solidarity more powerful than division.

To our incredible Liberty Hill community, when the stakes could not have been higher, you mobilized, knocked on doors, dialed phones, and raised funds until you couldn’t anymore. So many of you have done extraordinary work during this election cycle.

Thank you for your efforts.

Liberty Hill is committed to our Northstar of building power in communities most impacted by systemic oppression. That is the driving force behind our support of organizing as a powerful force for change. We are committed to building a more just future.

We are prepared to support our community partners by supporting advocacy, capacity-building, and grantmaking. And we plan to continue to invest in building the movement infrastructure to create a true multiracial democracy. We are also committed to doubling down on our efforts to unlock dollars from philanthropic organizations and donors to further the work of our grantee partners during this time.

As we gear up for the long fight ahead, we know it won’t be easy, but we also know we won’t be alone. The Liberty Hill community has always stood shoulder-to-shoulder with those on the frontlines fighting for change. And that’s exactly where we’ll be—from now until justice for all is realized.

In solidarity,
