CA Native Vote Project & Indigenous Education Now Coalition
Organizers from CA Native Vote Project and the Indigenous Education Now Coalition (IEN) packed the house at a recent town hall at Los Angeles County’s only Indigenous People’s School—Anahuacalmecac International University Preparatory of North America to meet with the newly appointed Superintendent of LAUSD, Alberto Carvalho, to advocate for funding to serve the needs of Native and Indigenous students.
Convened by the Indigenous Education Now Coalition a collective of Indigenous tribes and organizations throughout Los Angeles County, the Superintendent shared his commitment to working with the coalition to implement $10M in funding to a room of more than 100 Indigenous parents, educators, community members and the public. He will be drafting a compact this month.
Thank you to the families who invited me for a meaningful ceremony and conversation about supporting Indigenous students. I continue to listen, learn and have my actions be informed by this community. Indigenous students are present, learning and must be served in our District. pic.twitter.com/CT5TRPduK5
