Fierce Aunties on Housing Campaign
Liberty Hill community partners at Black Women for Wellness announced the launch of its latest campaign and mini-documentary— “Fierce Aunties on Housing Justice!”
The campaign shines light on the state’s housing affordability crisis and its impact on Black women in California. Featuring a four-week poster series displayed throughout South Los Angeles and a mini-documentary, the campaign centers the voice and powerful stories of Black women.
With evictions in Los Angeles disproportionately affecting Black and female-headed households, Black women experience eviction at three times the rate of white women. Nearly 60 percent of unhoused families are single-mother households, with Black women leading almost half of these households.
The Fierce Aunties campaign serves as an important tool for raising awareness about this injustice. Members of Black Women for Wellness share their personal housing stories in this captivating campaign, highlighting the significant racial and economic inequalities present in California’s housing system and advocating for much-needed housing justice reforms.
Established in 2017, Black Women for Wellness has grown from a volunteer group of women to a community institution committed to the health and well-being of Black women and girls. The organization seeks to empower communities and create lasting change through education, advocacy and leadership development programming.
