“Looking Ahead: Challenges & Opportunities Under the New Administration” Webinar
This month, the Institute on Race, Power & Political Economy and the Excessive Wealth Disorder Institute came together to host the second installment of their expert-led debrief series! The webinar explored the significance of the 2024 election for community power building in California, featuring Liberty Hill President & CEO Shane Murphy Goldsmith as a guest speaker.
Titled “Looking Ahead: Challenges & Opportunities Under the New Administration,” the discussion was moderated by Henry A.J. Ramos, Senior Fellow of the Institute. It centered on how the recent election is likely to influence and shape the ongoing efforts of the progressive community to tackle the political challenges that lie ahead.
The conversation also included other distinguished speakers, such as U.S. Representative-elect Lateefah Simon and G. Cristina Mora, Co-Director of the Institute of Governmental Studies at the University of California Berkeley.
Together, they shared valuable insights highlighting the power and importance of community organizing as a solution to the disconnect experienced by some after the recent election.
“If you’re investing in community organizing and building power, then you change what is possible,” Shane shared. “Because you’re building the power to change the political environment in which elected officials are working, and change their calculus about what they can strive for.”
This event was organized by the California Exploration Project, an initiative of the Institute on Race, Power & Political Economy aimed at enhancing capacity for multi-issue coalition work, expanding civic mobilization, and achieving long-term social justice victories for historically marginalized communities.
