The Pat Brown Institute Panel
This month, the Pat Brown Institute wrapped up its Fall Civic Engagement series with a lively post-election panel discussion featuring some familiar faces, including Liberty Hill President & CEO Shane Murphy Goldsmith!
Titled “The Future of Democracy: Coming Home,” this event was the culmination of the institute’s civic engagement series designed to foster community, provide civic education, and spark enthusiasm for civic participation. The discussion was moderated by Sarah Sadhwani, PhD, Assistant Professor of Politics, Pomona College, and focused on the outcomes of the November 2024 election.
In a meaningful discussion with community activists, researchers and the philanthropic community, the panel delved into the results of key local ballot measures and explored ways to remain active and engaged locally. They also touched on the national election and analyzed how congressional races impact legislative control.
Joining the discussion were other esteemed panelists, including Derek Steele, Executive Director of the Social Justice Learning Institute, and Karthick Ramkrishnan, PhD, Founder & Director of AAPI Data.
The Pat Brown Institute for Public Affairs was brought to Cal State LA in 1987 by former California Governor Pat Brown and is a nonpartisan, presidentially charted institute dedicated to the quest of social justice, equity, and enlightened civic engagement.
