Joy Friedman
Senior Director, Donor Organizing

Joy believes that organizing donors is an essential part of organizing power for a just world. She finds joy in nourishing connections—whether across a dinner table or in a campaign strategy session—and is fueled by a deep belief that people power, resourced boldly, can transform society.
As Senior Director of Donor Organizing, Joy leads Liberty Hill’s donor education and engagement programming, connecting donors with opportunities to support grassroots organizing through strategic action and values-aligned giving. She collaborates across departments to create high-impact donor experiences—from political education to personalized coaching—that deepen commitment, leverage social and political capital, and grow philanthropic investment in long-term movement building.
Joy Friedman brings over two decades of experience at the intersection of philanthropy and grassroots organizing. Before joining Liberty Hill Foundation, she spent 13 years at the Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism, where she led national and state-level campaigns advancing racial, immigration, gender, and climate justice. Joy is a strategic and values-driven leader who helped grow a multimillion-dollar budget, co-led a team of 30 staff, and expanded statewide organizing to nine states, partnering across red, blue, and purple communities. Previously she organized communities across the country with Faith in Action, the PICO National Network, as well as UNITE HERE and the Industrial Areas Foundation.
A Jew from a small town in Kansas, Joy's upbringing as a visible and religious minority ignited her commitment to ensuring that Judaism is synonymous with justice. She’s known for building authentic, trust-based relationships with donors and movement leaders alike, and for designing transformative learning spaces where people explore their relationship to money, power, and possibility.
In addition to her role at Liberty Hill, Joy serves on the boards of LA Forward and the One America Movement. She is an Aspen Global Leadership Network Fellow, having recently completed the Aspen Civil Society Fellowship, as well as the Western States Center’s Common Good Fellowship. A graduate of Carleton College, Joy completed the Leading Change program at Harvard’s Kennedy School. She’s a proud partner and parent of two young children. Her work is grounded in deep relationships, political clarity, and an unshakeable belief that a better world is worth organizing for.
