Veronica Phillips
Senior Grants Writer
I believe the health, social, and economic inequities faced by our communities are a direct result of deeply rooted systemic racism embedded in this country’s foundations. Working in social justice enables me to help dismantle these harmful structures and contribute to building thriving, prosperous and equitable communities throughout Los Angeles and beyond.
As the Senior Grants Writer at Liberty Hill Foundation, Veronica collaborates with Advancement and Program teams to identify and pursue strategic funding opportunities that align with the organization's mission and goals. She leads efforts to secure and steward grants from a diverse range of foundation and government sources, oversees the full lifecycle of grants and works to ensure alignment in grantmaking activities with programmatic goals and objectives to promote synergy and coherence in grant submissions.
The daughter of immigrants and a first-generation American, Veronica is a native Angeleno who has devoted her career to championing the rights and well-being of marginalized communities. Most recently, Veronica expanded grant funding for community-based organizations throughout Los Angeles County that worked to promote health equity for Black, Latinx, Asian and Pacific Islander (API) communities, immigrant and monolingual populations, BIPOC youth, LGBTQIA2S+ individuals, justice-involved people, and people experiencing homelessness. Her work has supported the creation of new programs, including initiatives that address the underrepresentation of BIPOC youth in environmental advocacy and government decision-making processes, and the development of an innovative street medicine program aimed to improve health outcomes for unhoused communities in South Los Angeles. Veronica received her Master of Social Welfare (MSW) degree from the UCLA Luskin School of Public Affairs and has a Bachelor's in Human Development and Women and Gender Studies from Sonoma State University.
